What is it about?

Wills are documents in which a person specifies how they want their assets and rights to be distributed after their death.

In addition, they can include personal provisions, such as those intended to protect minor children or the spouse.

In Spain, according to the applicable legislation, there are legitimate restrictions that limit the testator's freedom; the most relevant ones, though not the only ones, are in favor of the testator's descendants.

The law that determines the existence of these restrictions is the one corresponding to the testator (nationality or civil residency) at the time of their death. If the testator does not have Spanish nationality, it is important to make a will if they own assets in Spain.

Finally, it is important to note that during a declared epidemic and while confinement is mandatory, wills can be requested via videoconference.
